Activity Ideas

  1. Registration of participants

      Information required:

    • Full name
    • Date of birth
    • Address
    • Parent or guardians name
    • Emergency phone number
    • Social security number
    • Special needs

A preregistration form that would be brought to class the first night or sent to coordinator prior to the start of the course is recommended. Some programs may request that parents or guardians attend the first session or part of the first session so they are informed on the requirements of the program.

  2. Have students complete the Wisconsin Safe Operation of Tractor and Machinery Certification Participant Survey.
  3. Cover the general guidelines for the course and the requirements of the program to receive the federal and state certificates of training.
    • Conduct a get-acquainted activity for instructors and participants.
    • Have youth give not only their name but their favorite farm task.
    • Play the telephone game:
Start a safety message with the first person, pass the message along an see how it changes by the end. Discuss the need to remember to think about safety at all times. The changes in the message could result in an injury.
    • Play the name game:
Ask the first person to say "safety", state their first name, and say "safety" once again. The next person will say "safety", his/her name, the name of the person who just introduced him/herself's name and end with safety. Repeat through all participants. Adding "safety" to the game emphasizes the need to think about safety and how a person can forget when focusing on something else.
