Tractor Certification Exemption Requirements for 4-H Members
- Youth must be enrolled as a 4-H member;
- Youth must be 14 years of age, or older: (Note: a 4-H member may be under the age of 14
when qualifying for the certificate but the certificate cannot be issued until the 4-H
member is 14 years old or older.)
- Be familiar with the general hazards associated with agricultural work;
- Have completed the 10-hour certification program which includes the following
units on the safe operation of agriculture tractors;
4-H Manuals First
year manual, Lessons 1,4,7, and 8 Second year manual, Lessons 1 and 8
or
Safe Operation of Agricultural Equipment Manual Units 1 through 7
- Passed a written examination on tractor safety; and
- Demonstrate the ability to operate a tractor safely with a two wheeled trailed implement
through the 4-H tractor operator's contest course.
Tractor and Machinery Operation Exemption for 4-H Members
- The youth must have satisfied all of the requirements for the Tractor Operation
Certificate; and
- The youth must have completed an additional 10-hour certification program (20
hours total) on farm machinery safety, including units 8,9,10, and 11 of Safe
Operation of Agricultural Equipment Manual.
Tractor and Machinery Operation Exemption for Non 4-H Members
- The youth must satisfy all of the requirements for a Tractor and Machine
Operation Certificate under the 4-H Tractor and Machine Operation Program
with the exception of becoming enrolled as a 4-H member.
- The youth must complete a 4-hour orientation course that emphasizes
the general agriculture work hazards.
