Costs and Determinants of Hazard Remediation on Wisconsin Farm EquipmentThis project, funded through USDA Hatch funds, involves a random statewide survey of Wisconsin farmers to determine attitudes toward tractor rollovers and extra riders and determinants of retrofitting ROPS (rollover protective structures) on tractors. The survey was conducted in cooperation with the Wisconsin Agricultural Statistics Service (WASS). Additional data collected by NIOSH and WASS will be used to determine potential costs of ROPS retrofits in Wisconsin. Community Partners for Healthy Farming: SurveillanceFunded by NIOSH, this project studies farm-related motor vehicle collisions on public roads. Accident reports are obtained from the Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation for collisions involving farm equipment on public roads or trucks with farm license plates. Existing computerized data from WDOT is supplemented with information collected from phone interviews with involved farmers. A second phase of the project will involve conducting surveillance on sentinel farm injury events through reports voluntarily submitted by cooperating community organizations. Healthy Profits, Healthy FarmersThis NIOSH-funded project involves dairy farmers and fresh-market horticultural growers.
